Watermint, spearmint and peppermint.
These mints come from the northwest United States. The pure, moist mountain air of the spring & early summer growing season gives these mints some of the highest volatile oil counts recorded.
Generally (dependent upon weather patterns) the second cut (takes place during mid/end August) is the most flavorful, coolest & most pungent, (literally takes your breath away & makes your eyes water).
Mints are herbs & contain no caffeine. Quite often they are consumed after meals as the oils stimulate the flow of bile to the stomach & help relieve gas pains. They are also known to sweeten the breath & calm the digestive system, plus help heartburn, stomach aches & nausea.
Mint has been around so long the actual genealogy is obscure. It has been reported as a stewing herb by ancient Hebrews & it has been found in 3000-year-old Egyptian tombs. 2000 years ago, the Japanese cultivated mint as a source of menthol.
As a hot tea it is cool & refreshing as an iced tea the menthol content produces a pleasantly chilling taste sensation.
